After a fairly uneventful flight we landed in Madrid, got our cars and headed into the city. Our hotel is centrally located to all the major sights and traffic is terrible, so we parked and set out on foot. The first order of business was food and we found a fantastic restaurant. As we were leaving we found a framed article on their wall where they were written up by the New York times a couple of years ago. Turns out we have excellent choice in restaurants! We strolled through the Retiro (big park in Madrid) to let the kids burn off some energy and walked down Paseo de Prado before jet lag caught up with us. We grabbed what seemed to be a very quick nap, but next thing we knew it was 8:30 and time for dinner. We found a really neat tapas place and proceeded to be very impressed with the kids and their willingness to try everything. They ate the grilled octopus and the calamari, as well as different croquettes (deep fried tidbits filled with mashed potatoes and what we think was tuna!) It appears that the adults found the beer the most satisfying! Off to bed around midnight with big plans for manana.
